During installation, it says 'documents' is not a valid short file name.

Hi @wilsonangelo,
For further analysis, could you please send us the following:
- run dxdiag.exe on your primary machine, click "Save all information", save the output file (dxdiag.txt)
- spacedeskSetup.log file located in C:\Users\Public
- setupapi.dev.log file located in C:\Windows\INF
Please save all requested files in one folder, then right-click -> Send to -> Compressed (zipped) folder, then attach the *.zip file on your next reply.
Looking forward to your feedback.

Hi @wilsonangelo,

Thanks for sending the requested file.
Is this the first time you install spacedesk?
We checked your log file but we cannot find any installation error related to spacedesk.
Can you also send a screenshot of the error message from the spacedesk installer?

I have attempted installing it several times. I wonder why there is no log.

I cannot attach the photo since the maximum allowed is 3mb. It just says "'Documents' is not a valid short file name."

It is followed by "spacedesk Windows DRIVER Setup Wizard ended prematurely because of an error. Your system has not been modified. To install this program at a later time, run Setup Wizard again. Click the Finish button to exit Setup Wizard."

Hi @wilsonangelo,

This issue was caused by incorrect path to the Documents folder.
This might be fixed by updating the default location of the Documents folder.
Please try the steps below:
- Open File Explorer
- Right-click on Documents folder, then click Properties
- Click Location tab
- Enter the path to the folder location (e.g. C:\Users\<username>\Documents), click OK
- click Restore Default

After updating the default location, you must also change the path in the registry.
Please take note that changing something in the registry might cause some problems in your system. Make sure to backup first before you edit what is on the instruction.

- run regedit then go to Computer\HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\User Shell Folders
- Backup the settings first. Just right-click the "User Shell Folders" key, then click "Export" to save the .reg file. You can easily restore the settings using this backup reg file, in case something went wrong.
- Find the "Personal" registry value, double click it then change the value data to the new location path of the Documents your set earlier (e.g. C:\Users\<username>\Documents).

After that, please try again with spacedesk installer.
Looking forward to your feedback.

Lea, this is a company issued laptop that has folder redirection policy. I am not able to change that setting. I will let our IT know your response. But just in case, is there an alternative solution? Thanks.

Hi @wilsonangelo,

Unfortunately there's no other solutions.
Since it's a company property, there's a chance that the system policy on this machine is set to block any driver installation including spacedesk.
You must contact your IT administrator to allow any driver installation on this machine.
