Connection works fine while there's movement.
If inactive for some time the client disconnects.

Connection works fine as long as there's movement (moving the mouse, playing a video, etc).

After ~1 minute or less of inactivity, the client disconnects, and displays a still frame, not even noticing that the server has disconnected.

I have to manually disconnect the client, and reconnect it to the server.

Then the cycle repeats itself.

Laptop: HP Pavilion x360 - 14-ba004np
Laptop OS: Windows 10 Home 64 bits
Tablet: ASUS MeMO Pad HD7 (ME173X)
Tablet OS: LineageOS 12.1

I'm using the latest version of spacedesk for both server and client.

Thank you for your support, I really like this product. Besides this problem, it's basically flawless!

P.S. 100 character limit in the question is a joke.

Hi @raby,

Thank you for reporting this issue.
This unstable connection issue is still a known issue in our software.
We are still on continuous improvement of our software (including connection stability) and we will get back to you as soon as we have a new version with possible fix for this issue.

In the meantime, to further analyze the problem could you please download the attached 2020_spacedeskDiagnosticTool.zip file below then extract it.
Inside you will find spacedeskDiagnosticTool.cmd, just right-click it then run as administrator.
This script will start a debug view app to capture spacedesk debug traces.
On step 5 it will prompt you to reproduce the issue, make sure to do this before pressing any key to continue.
After the script is done, a folder will be created on the same folder as the script file which contains various log files that we need for analysis.
Please right-click it -> Send to -> Compressed (zipped) folder, then attach the *.zip file on your next reply.
Looking forward to your feedback.

I'm sorry for the late reply, but I couldn't login for some reason and then I forgot about it.

hmm I see. Anyway, I'll get back to you once I have the debug files.

I really want to see this program go mainstream, because that would mean a whole lot of old devices (like my budget tablet from 2013) would be out of landfills, and instead used to increase the productivity of their owners. Thank you for your support 🙂

Hi again,

Here's the debug files as I promised. There's two of them, the first one, the connecting dropped, but it picked back up, but in the second one, the client didn't noticed that the server lost connection and kept displaying a still frame.

Hi, has this problem been resolved? I'm experiencing the same problem. Connecting my pc and tablet works fine, and then after some time, while a video is playing (so it's in use) it freezes and the spacedesk window on the pc shows that there's no remote connection anymore. Just like the TS, I have to click the spacedesk app on the tablet, disconnect en then connect again. That's okay if it happens every few hours or even every hour, but now it's happening every 10 minutes. The longest I've been able to stay connected was 45 min.

Hi,

since the update to 0.9.87 I have also been increasingly dealing with disconnections. For me it is the case that people are not actively working on the display. It's more like a control monitor. Is there a solution for the disconnections in the meantime?

Hi @chrissie, Hi @dicker_pinguin,

Is your primary machine connected on wireless or wired network?

What is your secondary machine/viewer app? Android/iOS/Windows?
Is it connected on wired or wireless network?

Hi Lea,

my primary maschine is cennected on wired network.

The Secondary Maschine is a Android Tablet (Samsung Galaxy Tab A6), this connected wireless.

A FritzBox7490 serves as the router. (If this is relevant)

Hi @dicker_pinguin,
Is the android viewer disconnecting properly? like there's a message box with error code + connection time?
Or just showing a frozen screen image?

Hi @dicker_pinguin,
Ok. Can you quickly try the following:
- run ncpa.cpl on your primary machine
- then right-click -> Properties on your (wired)Ethernet network
- click the "Configure" button (it will show the properties of your network adapter)
- click the "Power Management" tab, if the "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power" is checked, please uncheck it then click OK button below.
Then try again to connect with spacedesk and observe if the same disconnection problem still persist.

Hello Lea,
Unfortunately, that didn't help. Spacedesk has just frozen again.

Hi @dicker_pinguin,
thanks for quickly trying it.
Can you immediately notice when it disconnects on the primary machine side?
How long before it disconnects?
Did it only start to happen with the latest spacedesk Driver v0.9.87?

Hello Lea,

Here are the answers to their questions:

Can you immediately notice when it disconnects on the primary machine side? --> Yes, as the picture from all monitors shortly flickers

How long before it disconnects? --> The intervals are very different. After I wrote the last comment yesterday, it only ran for 5 minutes. After that, it ran for the rest of the day (about 6 hours). The days before, the disconnections were more consistent. About every 3 hours.

Did it only start to happen with the latest spacedesk Driver v0.9.87? --> This also happened before, but only twice a week at the most.

Hi @dicker_pinguin,
Thanks for the feedback.
There's a possibility that the disconnection was caused by a temporary network connection loss.
Does your android tablet supports USB tethering?
If yes, can you try spacedesk on wired connection via USB tethering?
Just to check if disconnection will happen on a wired connected android tablet.

Hello Lea,

i had the same thought. Unfortunately, the tablet does not support USB tethering. 🙁

Hi @all,

I have now found a workaround for myself. I simply leave the Task Manager with the "Performance" tab open on the display. This way the display always has something new to show and doesn't freeze. The connection was stable all day yesterday with this trick.
