[Solved] BSOD Windows 10 (error: amdkmdag.sys )

Primary Machine (server) : Windows 10 (connected through ethernet)
Secondary Machine : Windows 8 (connected through wifi)

 

Primary Machine GPU : Rx 580 8gb ( Radeon Driver version = 20.9.1 )

I am able to connect easily without any issues but i get bsod after 3-4 mins of use getting error with amdkmdag.sys ( not VIDEO_TDR_FAILURE ).

 

I used ddu and reinstalled my display drivers, but i still get the same bsod.

Thanks for the information.
We are currently investigating it.
Does BSOD reliably reproducible after 3-4 minutes of spacedesk connectivity?
Does your Radeon Software window open upon BSOD?
Did you notice any screen flickering before the BSOD happen?

For further analysis, could you please send us the following:
- dxdiag info (run dxdiag.exe on your primary machine, click "Save All Information", save the output file)
- mini dump file (*.dmp) of this BSOD located in C:\Windows\minidump folder

Please save all requested files in one folder and right-click "Send to" -> "Compressed (zipped) folder".

hello @spacedeskLea ,

Does BSOD reliably reproducible after 3-4 minutes of spacedesk connectivity? -- YES

Does your Radeon Software window open upon BSOD?  -- I did notice radeon software trying to open on 2nd monitor and bugging, then i'd get BSOD

Did you notice any screen flickering before the BSOD happen? -- No screen flickering

 

I was able to fix the problem by installing older driver for my gpu (20.4.2) and disabling radeon software from auto-starting or closing it when while using spacedesk. (saw this in older support question)

I see..
It seems that the BSOD issue is still present with the latest AMD driver.
We thought that it was fixed on version 20.8.3 of Radeon Software since we cannot reproduce it easily anymore at that time.
We were able to reproduce it again today, once.

For now, please keep on using the version Adrenalin 2020 Edition 20.4.2 Recommended (WHQL) - Release Date: 5/26/2020.

I have the same problem

i connect and 2 seconds later BSOD [amdkmdag.sys]

and have reinstalled space desk

Exactly the same problem here with rx 560 by asus. I rather not downgrade the driver coz the newer version barely safe me from alot other problems with this gpu as card crashes, detecting gpu by mb problems and image qualyty problems. Damn those amd drivers. One can only hope for a helping hand from the developers... cheers.

Hi @nedkych, @markusthegamer, @johnadams,

With our continuous analysis and investigation of BSOD issue of spacedesk with latest AMD driver, can you quickly try with only spacedesk HTML5 viewer connected?
Just run a web browser (e.g. Google Chrome), then go to http://viewer.spacedesk.net/ and connect to your primary machine's IP address.
Then let us know if it's also crashing.

Please keep in mind that HTML5 viewer is slower than the native (Windows/Android/iOS) viewer app due to technical limitation of HTML5/Javascript.

Looking forward to your feedback.

spacedesk HTML5 viewer from my samsung tab A T515 with chrome, rx 560 main with latest 20.9.1 driver. Local network with 5 ghz wifi. That way i can force it to crash trying to open the radeon software. Same way it seems the same BSOD. I am little bit of newbie but just explain to me if you need me to try something else. Glad if i can be of any help.

P.S. spacedesk driver beta 0.9.66

Thank you very much for quickly trying and verifying it.
We can now also reproduce it with HTML5 viewer.
We are continuously analyzing and trying to fix this issue.
We will get back to you as soon as we have news about this issue.

Please try our most recent spacedesk Driver v0.9.68 on our website https://spacedesk.net/.
Then let us know if the BSOD crash on AMD driver with spacedesk connected is fixed now.

This time i am trying to make it crash but no luck ^^ good job guys, thanks for the help and suppord.

For the resolution... yes the tab in the windows settings is inactive. But setting up custom resolution from the android app work fine for me.

Actually no and i don't realy know how. Maybe the additional software? I see something about " videowall engine" I just set up "extend these displays" from the pc and set up the resolution from the app on my tablet. Well that is all i need and it's work fine 🙂 I read the post

And i try it for the sake of testing... but no effect. To be honest i truly believe i am in wrong somewhere maybe 😀

Hi @nedkych and @markusthegamer
Can you quickly try to click the spacedesk tray icon then on spacedesk SERVER window, please click the "..." button then the "Videowall configuration".
If videowall engine window is switched ON, please turn it OFF.
Resolution switch for spacedesk displays (on display settings) only works for regular spacedesk mode.

Ok, with videowall turned OFF, resolution switch for spacedesk display on display settings should work.
Does it work before? and this problem is only happening now with latest driver?
what is your client device's native screen resolution and the current custom resolution on the viewer settings?

So my custom resolution was set to 1920x1200 the actual resolution on my tablet is this. It seems "native" mean exactly that... the actual display resolution on my tablet (sry for my english i barely write...) and now i am runing only with the chek on native resolution in the app and is runing exactly that. I am not sure before whay the tablet was runing with differend resolution with check box on native but now it start with native and work fine so nvm. I was almost sure i am able to change the display resolution on my tablet from the windows display settings with the old driver... almost.. I install the older driver 0966 just to be sure... but no with 0966 i can not change the resolution from windows... same as the new driver. I try videowall on off check marks custom native w/o any .. force stop the app restart the pc no effect. Maybe i am misstaken with annother app or something like that. I install the new driver 0968 and as the old one i try differend thing ... but no, the resolution bar in windows display settings for the second display is inactive. I am realy sry as i say i barely write, is not my main language.

Hi @nedkych,
Is your tablet's native resolution is 1920x1200?
If 1920x1200 is already set as custom resolution and native is also the same, then that's why you cannot change to other resolution, both are set with the same resolution.
Can you try to set the custom resolution to other value (e.g. 1024x768, or others).
If you have native and custom resolution with different value, you can now change the resolution of the spacedesk display on the display settings window.

Yes now i feel stupid hehe. It work exactly as you say. It seems before my custom resolution in the app was set to differend defalt value and that is whay i was thinking i can chage the resolution with the old driver... ofc before i set the custom resolution same as native. Ofc this thing have no idea from where to grab any different resolution for me to set... logic. Lea thank you as the same time i am sorry it seems everything work just fine.
